Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the recent explosion near the historic Red Fort in New Delhi, which occurred on November 10, 2025. The current line of inquiry suggests that this blast may have been linked to a planned attack originally aimed at the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2025. Analysis of mobile phone data has revealed that Dr. Muzammil Ganaie, one of the main suspects associated with the incident, executed several reconnaissance visits to the area in early January. Given that the Republic Day parade route extends from Rashtrapati Bhavan to the Red Fort, this area is typically safeguarded with increased security and VIP presence.
Investigators suspect that the reconnaissance trips were part of a larger conspiracy designed to target the Red Fort during this significant national event. Enhanced security measures implemented during the celebrations could have thwarted the initial plan, possibly mitigating what could have been a more catastrophic incident. A senior police officer familiar with the details mentioned that the analysis of Dr. Muzammil's mobile data indicated a strategic approach to understanding the security setup around the prominent monument.
Dr. Muzammil, alongside an associate named Dr. Umar Nabi, was reported to have visited the Red Fort to observe security arrangements and evaluate crowd patterns. Their movements were further corroborated through location data from mobile towers and surveillance cameras in the vicinity. Authorities are also analyzing their communications and online traces to identify the funding resources for their activities and to uncover how explosives were acquired.
The investigation is also expanding to examine whether other individuals were involved in the reconnaissance or provided logistical assistance to the suspects. In addition, there is an ongoing analysis of Dr. Umar's movement data around the Red Fort to determine if he had any contacts leading up to the unfortunate explosion.
The deadly blast occurred when a high-intensity explosion tore through a Hyundai i20 car near the Red Fort Metro Station, resulting in 12 fatalities and many more injuries. Due to the severity of the case and its implications, the investigation has been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to ensure a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and any potential links to broader terrorist activities.
