Actor Oh Yeong Su, famous for his role in Squid Game, has been acquitted of sexual misconduct charges. Initially convicted and given an eight-month suspended sentence, his appeal led to the overturning of the ruling after he completed educational programs. The case raised concerns about the credibility of the victim's memory and the implications of sexual violence in the theater world, prompting ongoing advocacy from women’s rights groups. The prosecution's response to the acquittal remains unclear.

Oh Yeong Su, the 81-year-old actor renowned for his performance in the Netflix hit series Squid Game, has recently been acquitted of sexual misconduct allegations. Initially charged in 2022, he faced accusations of two instances of sexual assault involving unwanted physical contact, specifically hugging and kissing a woman without consent. In a previous court ruling in 2024, Oh was convicted and sentenced to an eight-month prison term, which was suspended for two years. Following this decision, he contested the severity of his sentence, asserting that he had already faced societal repercussions for his actions. On November 11, the Suwon District Court overturned the initial ruling, acknowledging that Oh had undertaken educational programs focused on sexual violence. The court's latest assessment suggested that the recollection of the events from 2017 may have been affected over time, creating potential discrepancies in the victim’s account. While the judgment offered a path to acquittal, it did not fully exonerate Oh, indicating a possibility that the alleged misconduct did occur, especially considering his public apology to the victim. In light of the ruling, the victim expressed her continued commitment to sharing her story, collaborating with the women's rights group Womenlink, which criticized the judicial decision, claiming it has implications for how sexual violence is addressed within the entertainment industry. As of now, it remains uncertain whether the prosecution will seek to appeal the updated verdict, leaving many questions unanswered regarding the case's future.
