In the wake of a deadly explosion near Delhi's Red Fort and the disruption of a terror module in Faridabad, security agencies have identified Imam Irfan Ahmad, a resident from Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, as a primary figure behind these incidents. Investigations reveal that Ahmad has been instrumental in radicalizing young medical students and promoting extremist ideologies.
Initially employed as paramedical staff at the Government Medical College in Srinagar, Ahmad was known for his frequent interactions with medical students and local worshippers at a nearby mosque. Over time, he began to influence students by introducing them to radical viewpoints and urging them to join his extremist agenda. Ahmad reportedly drew inspiration from Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a Pakistan-based terror organization, often showing propaganda materials to incite his followers.
In a concerning trend, two medical professionals, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel and Dr. Mohammad Umar, emerged as disciples of Ahmad's radical beliefs, furthering his mission among their peers. Ahmad aimed to embed extremist ideologies within educated youth in the medical field, where they could potentially operate secretly within society.
The criminal module, which was allegedly responsible for the plant explosions in Faridabad and subsequent activities culminating in the Red Fort blast, was purportedly orchestrated by Ahmad. Reports suggest that Dr. Mohammad Umar executed the attack on November 10 out of desperation after the police uncovered the Faridabad operation.
Additionally, the investigation has revealed Dr. Shaheen Sayeed from Lucknow, a faculty member at Al-Falah University, as a significant financier of the extremist group. Sayeed is suspected of being connected to the women’s wing of JeM, known as Jamaat-ul-Mominaat, which is involved in providing logistical and financial support for extremist actions.
Currently, a total of seven individuals have been arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police concerning these incidents, with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) now taking over the investigation to uncover further links and operations related to these terror activities.
