Following a tragic explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi on the evening of November 10, security measures have been significantly heightened across the country. This explosion, which occurred around 7 pm near the Subhash Marg traffic signal, resulted in the loss of at least 13 lives and injured several others. The government has reacted promptly to this incident, leading to enhanced security checks at various key locations, including Shri Badrinath and Shri Kedarnath temples, and the Sri Jagannath temple.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that the explosion was the result of a slow-moving Hyundai i20 car that detonated unexpectedly, prompting a thorough investigation by multiple agencies to comprehend both the cause and the motive behind the blast. The Delhi Police have responded by registering a case under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act at the Kotwali Police Station, reflecting the seriousness with which this incident is being treated.
Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest that the explosion may have been "accidentally triggered". Officials indicate that the explosive device was possibly set off while being transported, which leads back to the recent dismantling of an interstate terror network. In connection to the blast, investigators have identified a doctor from Pulwama, named Umar Nabi, who was driving the vehicle involved in the incident and reportedly has ties to the aforementioned terror module.
Moreover, the explosion occurred shortly after the arrest of eight individuals, including three doctors, involved in a broader terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. The operation led to the seizure of approximately 2,900 kg of explosives scattered across regions including Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, indicating the far-reaching implications of this network. Among those arrested were Dr. Muzammil Ganaie and Dr. Shaheen Sayeed, affiliated with Al-Falah University in Faridabad, where a significant quantity of ammonium nitrate was discovered.
In light of these developments, authorities are continuing their investigations to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety across India. The situation is being monitored closely, with law enforcement agencies on high alert to deter any attempts of further violence related to this disturbing event.
